Tessy
Thomas (1963-) is an Indian scientist who is the first women to be head
of a missile project in India. Thomas complete her B.Tech from Thrissur
Engineering College at Kozhikode and M.Tech from Pune-based Defence
Institute of Advanced Technologies. She was the project director of
Agni-IV, a project from the Defence Research and Development
Organisation (DRDO). In 2011 the missile was successfully launched after
over 10 000 computer simulations. In 2012, Thomas was conferred the Lal
Bahadur Shastri National Award by President Pranab Mukherjee in New
Delhi. Thomas is often called the ‘missile women’ and Agniputri (“one born of fire”) by the media.
