Arfa Karim Randhawa (1995-2012) was a Pakistani student who was one of the youngest people to become a Microsoft Certified Professional. She passed the Microsoft exam in 2004, when she was only nine years old. Her success in the Microsoft exam drew the attention of Bill Gates and soon after she was invited to the company’s US headquarters. In addition to her success on Microsoft exam, Arfa was awarded the Fatimah Jinnah Gold Medal, the Salaam Pakistan Youth Award and the President’s Pride of Performance. In January 2012, Arfa passed away after a heart attack that followed an epileptic fit. At the time of her ill health, Bill Gates offered medical help, including an offer to bring her to the United States, and kept in contact with Arfa’s family. Later, after her death, the Lahore Technology Park was renamed Arfa Software Technology Park in her honor.
