Published this week in the Journal of High-Energy Physics, Professor Stephen Hawking and Professor Thomas Hertog, KU Leuven, authorized the origin of the universe.
The Universe, according to modern theory, came into existence from a brief but powerful burst of inflation, in which the Universe expanded at an exponential rate. As a result, there were regions of said Universe, which never stopped and thus proved inflation as being eternal.
“The usual theory of eternal inflation predicts that globally our Universe is like an infinite fractal, with a mosaic of different pocket universes, separated by an inflating ocean,” Professor Hawking.
The main problem with this theory is that assumptions are made and are based off Einstein’s theory of general relativity and it treats the quantum effects as small fluctuations.
“When we trace the evolution of our Universe backwards in time, at some point we arrive at the threshold of eternal inflation, where our familiar notion of time ceases to have any meaning,” Professor Hertog.
Using string theory of holography, the professors developed a variation for which time dimension in eternal inflation is projected. The significant result is a Universe that is not only reasonably smooth but conclusively finite.
“We are not down to a single, unique universe, but our findings imply a significant reduction of the multiverse, to a much smaller range of possible universes,” Professor Hawking.
